Homemade Bread

I got an automatic breadmaker for Christmas and decided to take it for a spin this week.

I couldn't really call this post a "makeover" because I haven't actually made anything over - yet.  Now that I have my feet wet, I am going to experiment with different ways to increase the fibre and lose some of the calories.

In the meantime, I did make some pretty delicious breads (sourdough, whole wheat and honey oat so far).

Here is the recipe for the whole wheat.  It turned out very well (even though the top of the bread got stuck to the roof of the breadmaker, as you can see).  The bread was crusty on the outside and warm and fluffy on the inside.  Try it for yourself!

Whole Wheat Bread (Makes 12 Slices)

1 1/2 cups water
2 1/2 tbsp butter
1 tbsp honey
1 1/4 tsp salt
1 1/2 cups wheat flour
2 1/2 cups bread flour
2 tsp dry yeast

I just followed the directions for my specific breadmaker.  Added the wet ingredients, then the dry and made a well for the yeast.  Set the machine to 2 lbs, medium crust and "whole grains".  It took about 3 1/2 hours.

  1. Awesome. I LOVE my bread machine and use it at least once a week to make dough.

  2. It is fantastic! I will definitely need to try it for making dough. I don't think I will ever buy bread again :)
