I taught a spinning class this morning for the first time in almost a year.
It felt glorious.
I had forgotten what a sweaty workout it really is and I enjoyed every minute of it. There is a reason that indoor cycling classes are so popular: They are low impact and really get the heart pumping.
Just in case you are not totally convinced, I present you with my top 5 reasons why you should try spinning. (If you are just getting started, check out Indoor Cycling 101)
Spinning is a great calorie burner.
Intensity and endurance are the name of the game. Just one 60 minute class can burn between 500-1000 calories. (This always depends on how intensely you are exercising and will vary from person to person).
It is practically choreography-free.
You never have to worry about what direction to go or if you are moving on the beat. It is just you and the bike. I realise that this can also be a negative point for those that really enjoy choreography, but it is a selling point for some.
It is suitable for all fitness levels.
You are in complete control of the class. You can choose to make the workout as easy or as difficult as you like simply by changing the tension on the bike and/or adjusting your pedal speed.
Spinning adds variety to your workouts
We all tend to be creatures of habit. Runners run. Swimmers swim. Indoor cycling is a fantastic way to mix up your routine while challenging your mind and body.
It is fun!
Working out a in a group setting is a great way to have fun and stay motivated. I really find the regular class participants form a bond and become social outside of class.
Have you ever tried a spinning class?
