The Benefits of Aquatic Therapy

Hope you had a wonderful weekend!

Mine was busy, but I did manage to get my workout in. :)

I wanted to get out for a swim last week and didn''t quite make it.  I was so happy to hop in the pool yesterday, such a great way to spend a Sunday afternoon.

I have blogged about the benefits of aqua fitness, but today I wanted to talk specifically about aquatic therapy.  If you have ever gone through rehab or suffer with any chronic conditions, you already know that the water can be a life saver.

Here are few other things you might not know:
  • The buoyancy of the water supports your body weight, thereby reducing the amount of stress on your muscles and joints.
  • The viscosity of the water provides resistance to help strengthen muscles.
  • The hydrostatic pressure of the water helps reduce swelling and improves joint position awareness.
  • The warmth of the water relaxes muscles and helps to increase blood flow.

Exercising in the water allows you to continue to stay active while being kind to your body.  Many gyms and recreation centres offer classes and even personal training session in water to help get you started.

Have you ever rehabbed from your injury in the water?

Stay Healthy,
Tracy
