A few nights ago, we had a great discussion on Fitblog Chats about blogging.
I have posted about how blogging can help you build your brand as a fitness pro (or any other pro, for that matter) and how you can to build a better blog. Today, I wanted to talk about some of the specific things you can do to spread the word about your blog and connect with the community.
Doing a guest post is one of these best way to get your name out there and introduce yourself (and your blog) to a new audience. Many bloggers let you know when they are in need of some guest posts (i.e. if they are away on vacation or looking for an expert on a specific topic).
Now, don't contact random bloggers asking them to let you do a guest post. The key here is to build relationships (via Twitter or Facebook) with other people who share the same interests as you (say, fitness, health, food...you get the idea). Once you have established a "friendship", you can contact them and suggest a guest post swap.
I have said it before and I'll say it again: Get out there and meet people (like these awesome Toronto bloggers). Arrange a Tweet-Up with some fellow bloggers, attend a social or join an online discussion (like #fitblog or #runchat).
Face-to-face is the number one way to create relationships. People will get to know the person behind the blog and when they like what they see (and we know they will :), they will drop by your blog to see what you have to offer.
I strongly suggest printing some business cards for your blog. (OK, you caught me. This is the card for my business, but they are connected;)
Hand these cards out to family, friends, co-workers and anyone else you meet. You can also post them up on community bulletin boards. They look professionals, tell people how to find you and are really cost effective (check out Vista Print or DCP Print for some great deals).
What are some of your tips for promoting your blog?
